PHOTOVOICE PROMPT #1: THAT’S WE CULTURE

What do you see here? (Addressed to the whole group)

Unity, love, production, two people in close contact shelling nutmegs/mace. Perhaps they’re family members

Working hard reaping the nutmeg harvest. Shared work, preparing for sales.

Nutmegs, hardworking man in work clothes.

Unguarded cell phone. Rustic/rural village area.

Why did you take this photo? (Addressed to the photographer)

Pure Grenada – Isle of Spice. Advertising what Grenada has to offer. Usually tourist images are of the final product rather than the process. Nutmeg is a way to earn a living for farmers.

What is really happening here? (Addressed to the whole group—alternatively what does the photograph represent?)

Nutmeg is called “Black gold”

Post-Ivan numbers of nutmeg farmers are reduced, but prior this was a very popular image

Everyday culture for rural area for whole families

Brings the family together for communication (ole talk) plus work

Three grades of mace for sale – re: commercial values.
