OAS/GNT Sustainable Heritage Endorsement ProgrammePHOTOVOICE PROMPT #3: The Things Tourists Never See
What do you see here? (Addressed to the whole group)
A gate, a curved door, fancy roofing, stairs, big walls
Why did you take this photo? (Addressed to the photographer)
Tourists don’t see beyond bars, behind out lives, in our homes. They don’t see our lifestyle.
What is really happening here? (Addressed to the whole group—alternatively what does the photograph represent?)
Looks like it was once someplace fancy. Our lives were different then.
We seem happy and jolly to tourists but not all of us, some of us miserable and seeing trouble in their life circumstance.
It is like a performance. It makes you act nice and quiet, like a doll. Especially when they (tourists) visit your school (primary).
Sometimes people’s accent changes when they are talking to tourists because they don’t want to feel lesser or because they want the tourist to understand them easily.
Tourists smiles are often fake too.
