OAS/GNT Sustainable Heritage Endorsement ProgrammePHOTOVOICE PROMPT #5: Lost & Found
What do you see here? (Addressed to the whole group)
A girl with an afro and two piercings, eye liner, lipstick
Why did you take this photo? (Addressed to the photographer)
For women hair is one of the most complicated choir. Before natural hair was how we keep our hair, back in the day. Then relaxers came in and now people are going back to natural. They have pride in their hair and there is more info out there about the best ways to take care of it.
What is really happening here? (Addressed to the whole group—alternatively what does the photograph represent?)
History of oppression of black women’s hair is really sad.
Elaborate hairstyles in Africa
Natural hair was attracting white men so they were made to tie their hair.
This woman is confident and comfortable with who she is and with her own hair.
