The largest fort on the island, Fort Matthew is located on Richmond Hill next to Fort Frederick. The Fort, begun in 1778, offers stunning views of the town of St. George, specifically the Cruise Ship Port, the Carenage and even St. George?s University to the south of the island.?
This battle ground was once an insane asylum and until recently, a bar. Visit any time to explore the intriguing 18th century army kitchens, bathrooms, cells and eerily lit underground tunnels. You can also book this location through the Ministry of Tourism for a private event.
